What a skill is

A skill is a set of written instructions that teaches Claude how to do one specific job the same way every time. It lives in a folder. The folder holds a text file of instructions and, for advanced skills, extra files or scripts.

You don't call a skill by name. Claude looks at what you've asked, checks which skills it has, and loads the ones that fit.

A plain example: your company writes meeting notes in a fixed format with decisions first, then actions with an owner and a date. A skill holds that format. From then on, "write up these meeting notes" produces that format in any chat.
