The short version
Claude is an AI assistant made by a company called Anthropic. You type or speak to it in plain English, and it writes back. It can draft, summarise, explain, plan, analyse files and build small tools. You use it in a web browser at claude.ai, in a desktop app, or on your phone.
The simplest way to think about it: a capable colleague who has read a great deal, works fast, and knows nothing about you or your job until you tell it.
